Following the speeches, Ms. Ngan Ching Ching, Centre-in-charge of the Hong Kong Federation of Women's Centres gave a presentation on the implementation and progress of the project.
Approved by the Council in 2006, the "Community Sustainable Development Workshop - Promoting Community Sustainable Development by Women and Youth" project had been granted $700,000 from the Sustainable Development Fund to run for a period of two and a half years. Tai Po, being a new town with profound historical background and a relatively young population, offers much potential for the promotion of sustainable development. The project aims to empower women and youth to take an active role in promoting the concept and practice of sustainable development in the Tai Po community. Through a series of events and activities, women and youth have been encouraged to participate, lead, serve, collaborate and network in the local community to help develop a lively, people-oriented and sustainable community.
Since the project commenced in July 2006, a series of activities has been launched. The first stage of the project involved a series of 10 sustainable lifestyle talks to introduce the concepts of sustainable development presented in an easy-to-understand way relating to daily practice. The Community Classroom was also conducted to train up 37 women and 22 youth volunteers to become Community Mamas and Community Youths to play a more active role in promoting sustainable community development in Tai Po. The second stage was to organize roving exhibitions and the publication of a newsletter providing a platform to introduce the project’s progress and information. The project is entering its third stage in which survey on the checklist on community living space will be conducted. Stakeholders will be consulted on their visions on the development of the community. The last stage of project will involve reporting and publication of the survey findings. Views collected will also be conveyed to the relevant Government departments/bureaux and other stakeholders concerned.

After Ms. Ngan's presentation, Ms. Chan Wing Sze, Education Officer of the Hong Kong Federation of Women's Centres, hosted a sharing session. Ms. Tse Yuk Fung and Ms. Mabel Yuen, representatives from the Community Mama and Community Youth shared their experiences, vision and expectations on the project. Both Ms. Tse and Ms. Yuen were residents of Tai Po and their participation in the project was initiated by their strong desire to serve the community. Through the participation in the project activities, they enhanced their understanding on and awareness of the sustainable development concept and subsequently, helped in promoting the concept to the local community. The volunteer work had also helped them establish their social networks within the community and strengthen their sense of belonging to Tai Po. Finally, Ms. Yeung Bo Hei, the founder of the Life in Harmony Limited, was invited to share her experience of selling organic tofu in Tai Po in co-operation with the Hong Kong Federation of Women's Centres.
